Quick Thoughts On Creativity

Criticize & compare

vs.

celebrate & create.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the the act of creating, and the process we embark on when we decide to make things. It’s so easy to resort to the “criticize and compare” mindset over the “celebrate and create” mindset.

That’s why I’ve always loved this quote by Saul Bass:

“I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares.”

While criticizing our own skills and comparing our abilities with someone else’s is so easy to do, the act and art of making is worth the time, energy, and vulnerability it requires. Even if nobody cares, that doesn’t make it less valuable, less beautiful, less worthy of a pursuit.

Here’s to celebrating creativity, no matter where it takes us.
